Cats add second DE with Trevor Kent

Like end tables or nightstands, teams like to collect their defensive ends in pairs. Northwestern got themselves a heck of a pair of bookend DEs on Tuesday.

Three-star defensive end Trevor Kent of Pittsburg (Kan.) committed to Northwestern on the same day that Texas DE Earnest Brown offered up his verbal commitment.

Like the recently graduated tandem of Dean Lowry and Deonte Gibson, the Wildcats hope to line up Kent and Brown on opposite sides of the defensive line in the near future, and for years to come. Both are highly coveted players whose offer list belied their star ratings.

Kent, a 6-foot-4, 252-pounder, is the 17th-ranked defensive end in the nation for 2017. He chose Northwestern over offers from 11 other schools, including Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Penn State. Brown had 26 schools on his offer list, including finalists Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M.

Kent is the sixth member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2017, a group that now features three defensive linemen (Kent, Brown and tackle Sam Miller).
